I feel as though I gained more empathy towards many groups of people, such as those who need service dogs and those who were victims of crime.

– OJR Middle School Participant
The program was designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about philanthropy through addressing the needs of others. They do this by meeting weekly from October through May to decide how they will distribute the funds available to them via this program in the form of grants to local nonprofit organizations. Students hold conversations about what causes they want to support. Several of the causes have been homelessness, food insecurity, immigration, victims of crimes, and service pets. They have an end-of-year luncheon or breakfast to acknowledge the organizations they are supporting. This is all student lead. We are thankful to all the school staff that help moderate these clubs.
